10 Killed in Gilgil Road Crash on Nairobi–Nakuru Highway

NAIROBI, Kenya Apr 4 – At least 10 people have been killed following a road accident at Gilgil along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway on Friday night.

Confirming the incident on Saturday, April 4, Gilgil Sub-County Police Commander Winston Mwakio said the victims died on the spot after a public service vehicle collided with a stalled trailer.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the crash occurred at حوالي 9:30 p.m. near the Lake Oil bridge. The matatu, operated by Likana Sacco, was traveling from Naivasha towards Nakuru when it rammed into the stationary truck under circumstances that are still under investigation.

According to Mwakio, only two passengers survived the crash. The injured victims were rescued and rushed to a nearby health facility, where they are currently receiving treatment.

Police have since launched investigations to establish the exact cause of the accident. The wreckage of the vehicle has been towed to a police station for further inspection.

The bodies of the deceased were removed from the scene and taken to a local mortuary, where they await identification and post-mortem examinations.

Witnesses described a horrific scene, with emergency responders, assisted by members of the public, working through the wreckage to retrieve victims before clearing the area.

Images circulating online show the matatu’s front section completely crushed, underscoring the severity of the impact.
