748 Air to resume domestic flights after two-year hiatus

NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 2 – Aviation firm 748 Air Services is set to resume domestic flight operations in May, marking a return after more than two years of suspended services due to low demand.

The airline said its Fly 748.com service will reconnect Jomo Kenyatta International Airport with key coastal destinations including Mombasa and Ukunda.

748 Air had halted all domestic flights on March 1, 2023, as it shifted focus to humanitarian aviation operations. Prior to the suspension, it served routes to Mombasa, Malindi, Kisumu and Ukunda.

The airline will operate a fleet of Dash 8-Q400 aircraft, with one-way fares starting from Sh6,500, as it seeks to tap into recovering demand in Kenya’s domestic travel market.

Management indicated that route expansion will be gradual and driven by market demand, signalling a cautious return to scheduled passenger services.

The resumption comes amid improving activity in tourism and regional travel, sectors that had been hit by reduced demand in recent years.
