“Aibu Kubwa”: Ruto Aims Dig at Uhuru After High Court Party Leadership Ruling
President William Ruto launched a fresh political broadside against his predecessor, retired President Uhuru Kenyatta, labeling him a “rebel leader” who has failed to transition into the role of an elder statesman.
Speaking during a re-election campaign rally in Siaya County, President Ruto welcomed a recent High Court ruling that barred Kenyatta from holding executive leadership positions in political parties. Ruto argued that his former boss has brought dishonor to the presidency through continued active involvement in opposition politics.
Ruto expressed dismay at Kenyatta’s decision to maintain an active political profile after stepping down from office.
“Mimi nashangaa, mtu ambaye amekuwa Rais wa Kenya, unaacha kiti ya Rais, badala ya kwenda kuwa statesman, unaenda kuwa rebel leader, kiongozi wa upinzani. Mpaka saa hii korti inamwambia atoke,” President Ruto stated.

The president claimed Kenyatta has disgraced the presidency and accused him of funding opposition political activities intended to destabilize the current administration.
“Imagine surely hiyo ni aibu kubwa. Na sasa ati amekodesha Orengo hapa, hao watu wa Linda Sponyo. Gavana Orengo awachane na maneno ya Linda Sponyo, kama Uhuru Kenyatta hakunishinda akiwa Rais ataninishinda saa hii kweli?” Ruto posed.
These latest comments build on a series of political salvoes from President Ruto aimed at both Kenyatta and KANU Chairman Gideon Moi, whom the administration routinely accuses of financing anti-government movements.
Attack on Opposition Strategy
Turning his attention to the broader opposition coalition, President Ruto urged citizens in Siaya County to reject opposition figures, characterizing their leadership offer as directionless and risky for the country.
“Wale majamaa wengine wanataka kucheza kamari ya patapotea na nchi yetu. Watu ambao hawana mpango, hawana sera, hata akili yao ni kidogo. Kenya is too important. Our nation is too important to be left to games of guesswork,” Ruto stated.
The president urged voters to reject opposition candidates in the upcoming elections, maintaining that Kenya requires structured economic policies rather than political uncertainty
