Autopax unveils locally assembled Cheche e-motorcycle with battery swap

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 10 – Motor dealer Autopax has introduced the locally assembled Cheche electric motorcycle alongside a battery-swapping station in Karen, Nairobi.
The rollout, done in partnership with Kofa and TailG, combines motorcycle assembly, battery systems and swapping infrastructure into an integrated transport solution.
The Karen facility is part of a network of 12 operational swapping stations across Nairobi and its environs, supported by about 1,200 batteries targeting an initial fleet of 500 motorcycles.
The system allows riders to swap batteries within minutes, eliminating charging downtime and improving efficiency for commercial riders.
At the centre of the rollout is the Cheche motorcycle, assembled locally and tailored for Kenyan conditions, with a focus on durability, versatility and modern design for both personal and commercial use.
The bike features a dual independent battery system and a Combined Braking System aimed at enhancing safety through improved stability and braking control.
The launch builds on Autopax’s earlier introduction of the Air EV Yetu, reinforcing its push into locally relevant electric mobility solutions.
Industry players say the integration of infrastructure, battery capacity and after-sales support positions the Cheche platform as a competitive model in the region’s growing electric mobility sector.
The firm said the move signals a shift from pilot projects to scalable deployment, offering corporates, fleet operators and individual riders a viable transition to electric transport.
