Babu Owino Dismisses Homa Bay Comments as Proof of Split With Sifuna

Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino dismissed reports suggesting a political rift between him and Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna. Addressing a youth gathering on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, the lawmaker reaffirmed his support for his fellow Linda Mwananchi movement co-principal and urged opposition leaders to unite ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Babu claimed that rumors alleging he had withdrawn support for Sifuna’s presidential ambitions were designed to divide opposition factions and weaken efforts to challenge President William Ruto’s administration.

He called on his supporters to stand firmly behind Sifuna, emphasizing that their political partnership began at the grassroots level and should not be swayed by online chatter.

“Nataka mtushikilie mikono…mshikilie Sifuna kama my brother, mshikilie Babu Owino pia…raundi hio tukipeleka mambo mbele, tuskume ndugu yetu (Sifuna),” Babu said.

He advocated for backing Sifuna as the senator works to form alliances with other opposition figures, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, former Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza, Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Siaya Governor James Orengo, former Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i, and retired President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Babu stressed that the opposition can only unseat the Kenya Kwanza administration through total unity.

“Tunataka tuskumane tu kwa sababu sisi sote kama Wakenya tuko na shida moja, na hiyo shida ni hii serikali ambayo haifanyi kazi. Mnataka tubadilishaje hii maisha kama hatujaungana?” he asked. “Ndiyo maana mimi nasema ili tutoe hii serikali, opposition lazima iwe united. Tukishikana hivo, tuko na solution; lakini tukiwa divided, hakuna penye tunaenda. Na hii serikali inafanya juu chini ili opposition iwe divided.”

Dismissing any falling out between them, he noted that their partnership was intentional and that abandoning it would only serve the current administration’s interests.

“Sasa ndugu yangu mwenye nimeanza na yeye, tumekuja na yeye huku juu, simtaki tena aje? Kama singemtaka si hatungeshikana kuanzia kule chini. So lazima tuwe united for us to deal with such a government,” he stated.

Addressing recent comments made in Homa Bay regarding Kalonzo Musyoka, which critics interpreted as evidence of a split, Babu warned that attempts to portray opposition leaders as fragmented would harm their collective objective.

“Babu akienda kule Homa Bay, ameongea juu ya Kalonzo pia, sasa ati Babu hataki Sifuna, anataka Kalonzo. Hawa watu wawili wakiseparate, Ruto amerudi, asubuhi mapema,” he said.

The lawmaker accused the government of orchestrating digital and physical attacks to create divisions within the opposition.

“Government haitalala, kwa sababu wata-unleash bloggers; online goons wanaku-attack huko kwa mtandao, ukikuja kwa ground kuna ground goons wanaku-attack hapa. So wana-attack from all directions,” Babu said.

He maintained that the opposition would rely on faith and unity to counter these political challenges.

“But sisi tunasema they will come against us with goons, rungus, pangas, mishale, but we will go against them in the name of the Almighty God. Ni Mwenyezi Mungu ndiye atatupigania,” he asserted.
