Bamburi Cement Wins Three Honours at Road Safety Awards 2026

Bamburi Cement Plc has won three awards at the Kenya Road Safety Excellence Awards 2026, organised by the Automobile Association of Kenya (AA Kenya) in partnership with the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA).

The awards recognise the company’s efforts to improve road safety through driver welfare programmes, transport safety management and the development of innovative tools for assessing transport operators.

Speaking after the ceremony held at Serena Hotel in Nairobi, Bamburi Cement Supply Chain Director Mohamed Kassim said the recognition reflected the collective efforts of employees and transport partners in promoting responsible driving.

“These accolades are a testament to the hard work, dedication and vigilance of our employees and transport partners in protecting themselves and other road users. Road safety is a shared responsibility, and we remain committed to strengthening our safety practices and ensuring that every journey is undertaken with the highest regard for human life,” said Kassim.

The company won the Driver Safety and Wellness Award for its driver safety and welfare measures, which include a Digital Driver Pass, an In-Vehicle Monitoring System (IVMS), a ban on night driving and audited defensive-driving training.

The measures are designed to strengthen driver accountability, encourage safer driving behaviour and improve oversight of transport operations.

Bamburi Cement also emerged the winner in the Road Safety Champion Award category for its transport safety management programme, which covers more than 1,000 drivers and over 25 transport partners beyond the company’s directly owned fleet.

The programme seeks to promote consistent safety standards across its transport network through partnerships, accountability measures and initiatives aimed at reducing road incidents.

The manufacturer’s third award was in the Road Safety Innovation Award category for its Transporter Safety Maturity Audit Tool, which assesses transport operators against five road safety pillars.

The tool uses a weighted scoring system to classify transporters according to their level of safety maturity, offering a more detailed assessment than conventional pass-or-fail checklists.

Bamburi Cement said 16 transporters had been profiled using the tool, which has also been applied to rail operators, demonstrating its potential for assessing safety practices across different transport modes.

The three awards highlight the company’s approach to integrating road safety into its operations and extending safety standards across its transport value chain.

By combining driver training, monitoring systems, welfare measures and data-driven assessments, Bamburi Cement seeks to strengthen safety practices among employees and transport partners while protecting other road users.

The Kenya Road Safety Excellence Awards recognise individuals, organisations and institutions whose initiatives demonstrate commitment, innovation, collaboration and measurable impact in improving road safety across the country.
