Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has announced the death of his wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale.
In a statement shared on Saturday morning, the senator said his wife collapsed suddenly and died following a heart attack.
“My dear wife, Gloria Sekeiyan Khalwale, has this morning suddenly collapsed and died after a heart attack,” Khalwale said.
The senator described Gloria as the mother of their children, naming Engineer Kukaste Khalwale, Olivia Sabayi Khalwale, Flavia Shimuli Khalwale, Gift Atubukha Khalwale, Meliza Khamwenyi Khalwale, Velma Nasiebanda Khalwale, Sonia Inuni Khalwale and Maura Makatse Khalwale.
The announcement has triggered an outpouring of condolences, with Kenyans and leaders expected to send messages of support to the veteran politician and his family during the difficult period.
