Customers connected to national grid rise by 182,195 to 10.2mn

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 13 – The number of Kenyans connected to the national electricity grid increased by 182,195 to 10.2 million as of December 25, 2025, according to new industry data.
Latest figures from the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) show an improvement from 10.17 million connections recorded in November 2025.
However, the regulator noted that the growth was slightly lower compared to the same period the previous year, which saw 194,654 new connections.
Under the Last Mile Connectivity Project (LMCP), the government aims to achieve universal electricity access by 2030.
The programme focuses on extending low-voltage lines, integrating fibre optic technology for grid modernisation, and adopting geospatial planning under the Kenya National Electrification Strategy (KNES) 2025–2030.
LMCP targets households within a 600-metre radius of existing distribution transformers and plans to connect about 93,000 new customers per phase to reduce costs and accelerate access.
Since its launch in 2015, the initiative—implemented by Kenya Power—has connected 742,805 households across all counties through government and donor support.
