EACC Lists 13 Major Anti-Corruption Matters as Court Diary Reveals Active Cases Across Kenya

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has released a packed court schedule highlighting a series of ongoing corruption-related cases and recoveries worth billions of shillings, spanning national and county governments.

The list, covering matters scheduled for hearing and judgment between 2 and 5 June 2026, shows multiple cases involving allegations of fraud, conflict of interest, unlawful acquisition of public property, and recovery of misappropriated funds across various state institutions.

Among the key cases set for judgment is a dispute involving Joshua Munyaka and Daniel Kilonzi, who are accused of using false and misleading documents in an alleged irregular tender award linked to Kitui County Government.

 The case involves a KES 35 million drilling rig procurement contract that prosecutors say was unlawfully awarded to a private firm.

In another matter, Catherine Mumma faces a recovery suit for KES 903,000 allegedly received as irregular allowances from the National AIDS Control Council, with proceedings set before the Milimani Commercial Court.

A separate high-profile hearing involves Ben Gethi and 14 others, alongside the National Youth Service (NYS), in a case challenging the legality of 277 payment vouchers worth approximately KES 6.1 billion. The suit seeks to have the vouchers declared fraudulent and to bar payment over alleged abuse of office and breach of fiduciary duty.

Other cases listed include recovery actions against individuals accused of receiving fraudulent imprest, unlawful procurement advances, and misappropriation of donor funds and government grants across multiple counties and agencies.

The docket further highlights a KES 220.4 million dispute involving alleged unlawful advance payments to a contractor, as well as a case seeking recovery of public funds disguised as service payments to companies linked to public institutions.

In addition, the court will hear matters involving alleged unlawful acquisition of public land in Kericho valued at KES 21.5 million, recovery of fraudulent salaries in Homa Bay County amounting to KES 679,727, and conflict of interest allegations against a Kenya Rural Roads Authority employee accused of using proxies and relatives to benefit from public contracts.

Other ongoing matters include recovery of KES 1.6 billion allegedly misappropriated from the National Treasury, as well as a separate claim seeking to recover KES 615 million in unexplained wealth.

The EACC also listed a preservation order involving KES 597 million in government securities tied to investigations into alleged embezzlement within the Sports, Arts and Social Development Fund.

The Commission said the cases reflect its continued push to recover stolen public funds and strengthen accountability in public service, particularly within procurement and financial management systems.

Anti-corruption courts in Milimani, Kitui, Machakos, Kericho, and other stations are expected to handle the matters during the scheduled period, in what observers describe as one of the busiest corruption court weeks in recent months.
