Elachi Launches Huawei DigiTruck Programme to Boost Youth Digital Skills in Dagoretti North

Dagoretti North Member of Parliament Beatrice Elachi has led the official launch of the Huawei DigiTruck Digital Literacy Programme at Lavington Girls Secondary School, in a move aimed at strengthening youth empowerment and digital inclusion in the constituency.

The launch was attended by senior Huawei executives, including Eng. Maureen Mwaniki, the Government Relations Director, and Ms. Khadija Mohammed, Director of Communications and Public Affairs, who reaffirmed the technology firm’s commitment to expanding digital opportunities across Kenya.

The programme has enrolled 250 youths who are currently undergoing hands-on digital skills training at Lavington Primary School.

The training will run until December 22, 2025, after which participants will graduate with certificates and take part in an innovation challenge. Top performers will receive prizes including laptops, tablets and smartwatches.

Speaking during the launch, Hon. Elachi emphasized the critical role of digital literacy, particularly for young people from informal settlements.

“Digital skills are no longer a luxury; they are the new foundation of opportunity for our young people. For our Form Four leavers, this opportunity means access to jobs, online businesses, global networks and the confidence to compete in today’s fast-changing world,” Elachi said.

She noted the growing adoption of digital and green technologies in areas such as Kawangware, citing the use of electric bikes, electric cooking solutions and mobile-based services. Elachi urged the youth to transition from being consumers of technology to becoming creators and innovators.

“The Huawei DigiTruck programme has shown us what is possible. This training will empower our youth and transform the entire community,” she added.

Eng. Mwaniki encouraged participants to fully utilise the opportunity, noting that the DigiTruck programme is in high demand across the country. She explained that Dagoretti North was given special consideration due to its proximity to Huawei’s offices, reaffirming the company’s commitment to uplifting communities through sustainable digital empowerment initiatives.

The Huawei DigiTruck initiative is part of Huawei’s global mission to bridge the digital divide by equipping underserved populations with practical digital skills that support economic growth and innovation.
