Eyes on the World Cup:Junior Starlets Draw Strength from Camp Ahead of Qualifiers

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 2, 2026 — Kenya’s Junior Starlets are steadily building momentum ahead of their FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Namibia, this month.
Players have highlighted unity, growth, and a shared ambition to reach the global stage as key factors that have spurred them on in their preparations.
Defender Rose Nangila emphasized the positive atmosphere within the camp, noting that teamwork and encouragement have been central to their preparations.
She pointed out that the players have created a supportive environment that is helping them stay focused on the task ahead.
“The camp has been good, and every player is encouraging each other so we can all focus on the games ahead. As a team, we have one goal, to make it to the World Cup,” Nangila said.
Midfielder Tabitha Wambui echoed her sentiments, describing the experience in camp as both intense and transformative compared to club-level football.
She admitted that the step up to the national team has challenged players to adapt quickly and raise their standards.
“At this level, training is more intense than what we are used to in our clubs. We are learning more and adapting to play at a higher level. It has been a great experience, and I feel privileged to be here because many players dream of representing the country,” Wambui said.
She further highlighted the tactical discipline required at the national level, noting that players must balance their individual strengths with the coach’s instructions.

She believes the team are beginning to find the right rhythm.
“The experience has been top-notch. From U-15 to now U-17, we are achieving something. Here, you don’t just play what you know, you follow the coach’s instructions and build on your ability,” Wambui added.
With morale high and competition for places driving performance, the Junior Starlets are showing signs of a team coming together at the right time.
As they continue preparations, the focus remains clear: maintain the momentum, execute the game plan, and push all the way towards World Cup qualification.
