Fake Nivea, Vaseline, Tresemmé Seized as ACA Cracks Down on Eastleigh Traders

The Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA) has raised serious health and safety concerns over fake personal care and cosmetic products circulating in the market, warning that these illicit goods pose severe risks to public health.
The warning follows a successful enforcement operation in Nairobi’s Eastleigh estate, where ACA inspectors seized suspected counterfeit personal care items valued at approximately Sh1.1 million.
“Given that personal care and cosmetic products are applied directly to the body, the presence of counterfeits within this category poses a particular concern for public health and safety,” the authority stated.
“Consumers who unknowingly purchase such items are often left with no means of verifying their origin, authenticity, or quality, exposing them to products that may not meet required safety standards.”
Seizure of Top Consumer Brands
The targeted raid focused on key storage and distribution points supplying counterfeit goods across Nairobi. During the operation, officers confiscated fake versions of popular household skincare and hair care products.
“The operation, conducted by the Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA), resulted in the recovery of assorted products bearing the Nivea, Vaseline, and Tresemmé brands, suspected to be fake,” the authority revealed.
“The raid forms part of the Authority’s sustained efforts to disrupt the storage, distribution, and sale of counterfeit goods within Nairobi’s key commercial hubs. The Anti-Counterfeit Act empowers ACA to combat counterfeiting and related trade in counterfeit goods across Kenya. The consignment has since been seized and detained pending further investigations and appropriate legal action under the Anti-Counterfeit Act.”
The Eastleigh raid reflects the ACA’s ongoing strategy to dismantle illegal distribution networks operating within major commercial centers. The agency strongly advises beauty traders to source inventory exclusively from legitimate, traceable suppliers, while urging everyday shoppers to carefully inspect branded items prior to purchase.
