“God Knows Where I’ll Land”: CS Mbadi Speaks on 2027 Ambitions

Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi has offered a rare glimpse into his political future, acknowledging his drive for higher office while stopping short of declaring a specific path for the 2027 general election.
During an interview on Sunday, April 12, the CS remarked that ambition serves as a natural engine for any politician, though he admitted that his next chapter remains unwritten.
CS Mbadi noted that his political trajectory depends on a blend of personal initiative and the unpredictable nature of timing and fate.
“There’s no politician in this world who is not ambitious. All of us have ambitions; some wild, reasonable, and some are unreasonable. So I am equally ambitious. As to where that ambition will land me, God knows, plus my efforts,” he said.
Looking back, Mbadi explained how previous strategic decisions influenced his current standing. He revealed that his career path shifted significantly in 2022 when he set aside his bid for the Homa Bay gubernatorial seat due to a political agreement with the late Raila Odinga. He suggested that these past experiences will likely prevent him from revisiting the specific goals he held during the 2017 or 2022 cycles.
“What is certain is that I may not run for seats that I wanted to run for in 2017. Remember in 2022, I had planned to go for the gubernatorial seat in Homa Bay, and that didn’t work because of the arrangement I had with the late Raila Odinga,” he added.
Mbadi also suggested that he might pivot away from parliamentary politics, hinting that a return to elective office in 2027 could see him seeking a different role entirely. He noted that while nothing is set in stone, he might consider a run for a gubernatorial seat rather than returning to the National Assembly.
“Where I am today is just as I may not run again for a parliamentary seat in 2027. It can happen any other time; you can’t rule out anything and run for the gubernatorial seat,” he further said.
