Government Sets 9-Month Deadline for 33 New Kenya Stadiums

The government has assured Kenyans that the ongoing construction and renovation of various stadia and sports facilities across the country will be completed within the next nine months.

Sports Principal Secretary (PS) Elijah Mwangi made the promise during an interview on Citizen TV’s Sporty Monday Show. He said that the national government is working in tandem with county governments to ensure the projects are completed in time.

“I am confident that the projects will be ready in the next nine months. We are working in collaboration with the county government to ensure that they are delivered in good time for use,” said the PS.

PS Mwangi confirmed that the government is constructing 33 new stadiums. This is part of the government’s commitment to develop sports infrastructure and create greater opportunities for athletes and communities at the grassroots level.

At the same time, the PS said the government is collaborating with the Confederation of African Football(CAF) to ensure Kenya is well prepared to cohost the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) alongside Uganda and Tanzania.

“We held a meeting with inspectors from CAF, and they gave us recommendations on what needs to improve when it comes to the facilities that will be used, and we are working to make sure everything is ripe for the tournament,” he said.

He also assured that the new facilities will meet the required standards and are suited to the sporting strengths of different regions.

“The government is working closely with the federations to make sure that the facilities meet the required standards for use. FKF and Athletics can be some of the federations we are working closely with,” PS Mwangi said.
