“I Will Repay That Ksh10 By Reducing Fuel Prices”: Sifuna’s State House Pledge

Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna promised to lower fuel prices if elected president, framing the move as a gesture of gratitude for public donations toward his State House bid.

Speaking in Kamukuywa, Bungoma County, Sifuna defended the Linda Mwananchi movement’s reliance on small contributions from ordinary citizens. He explained that he prefers owing thousands of everyday Kenyans rather than wealthy figures who would demand government favours later.

“The Ksh10 that Kenyans are contributing is enough. It is better to owe Kenyans than to owe a few rich people who will demand tenders once we form government,” Sifuna said.

He pledged to reward citizens for their financial support by bringing down energy costs.

“When we form government, I will repay that Ksh10 by reducing the price of fuel by Ksh10,” he said.

Beyond economic promises, Sifuna urged a return to democratic principles, arguing that infrastructure projects cannot excuse poor leadership or disregard for the rule of law. He insisted that the nation requires a value-driven government that respects democracy.

“Lazima serikali iwe serikali ya madili. Tuheshimu demokrasia. Usianze kusema sisi hatuna sera. Tunataka turudi nchi hii kwa reli ya demokrasia,” Sifuna said.

The senator stressed that building roads and stadiums should not serve as the sole benchmark for good governance, noting that authoritarian regimes also complete infrastructure projects. He urged voters to focus on the core values and principles guiding those in power.

“Hata Sifuna anaweza kujenga barabara na dictator pia anaweza kujenga stadium. The choice is now yours,” he said.

His comments come as Linda Mwananchi ramps up nationwide mobilization ahead of the 2027 General Election. Sifuna expressed gratitude to key figures backing the movement, including Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale, Funyula MP Wilberforce Oundo, and Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya.

“Natembeya amenishikilia, alisema nitangulie. Sio ati kwa sababu yeye hawezi kuwa rais, amesema nitangulie mbele, nikiingia pia yeye ameingia,” Sifuna said.

Closing his address, Sifuna urged his supporters to stay the course, promising full dedication to the political journey.

“Tukianza hii safari, nitageuka nipate mmetoroka? Tutaenda mpaka mwisho hii safari. Mimi sitawaangusha na nyinyi msiniangushe,” he said.
