“If You Cannot Do Your Job, Resign”: Sudi Blasts Murkomen Over Gachagua
Kapseret Member of Parliament Oscar Sudi has called on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Director of Criminal Investigations Mohamed Amin to arrest Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) Leader Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking on Monday, August 3, Sudi warned that Gachagua’s rhetoric could trigger a resurgence of the 2007 post-election violence if left unchecked. He accused the former deputy president of pushing to exclude non-locals living in the Mount Kenya region, cautioning that such a narrative threatens to spark tribal clashes.
“Kipchumba Murkomen and the DCI Boss, the 2007/2008 chaos began like this. For this man, Gachagua, to start telling people that Sarah Korere should not even get a single vote from the people of the Mountain, that calls for action,” Sudi stated.
“We cannot go down that road by following the path of Gachagua and Mukurweini MP John Kaguchia. Murkomen and DCI Amin, if you cannot do your job, resign. We are tired of lip service; we need action,” he added.
Sudi Warns Mt.Kenya Residents, ‘Wake Up!’
Sudi argued that authorities should have already detained Gachagua, citing multiple petitions filed against the DCP leader at the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC). He urged residents of the Mount Kenya region to reject Gachagua’s guidance, claiming the former deputy president is steering them toward political ruin.
“Gachagua, you do not want the presidency; I know what you want. To the people of the Mountain, wake up! You must not even vote for President William Ruto. Vote for anyone you want, but we must protect our country,” Sudi insisted.
The lawmaker questioned why Gachagua promotes the marginalization of non-locals and pro-Ruto figures within Mount Kenya, even as members of his own community live and work across the nation. He dismissed the targeting of leaders allied to the Head of State as backward politics.
Prominent businessman Rodgers Kipembe Mpuru supported Sudi’s demands, demanding faster action from law enforcement.
“We need a serious cabinet secretary in the Ministry of Interior. Why is Gachagua still free?” Mpuru questioned.
Tensions Escalating Over Kaguchia’s Arrest
Sudi’s comments followed a statement from Gachagua condemning the recent arrest of Mukurwe-ini MP John Kaguchia. Gachagua accused the state of weaponizing the criminal justice system to settle political scores, arguing that targeting opposition figures will only galvanize DCP supporters and elevate Kaguchia’s stature within the party.
Authorities arrested Kaguchia after he warned Mount Kenya residents against supporting President Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid during a weekend rally in Kieni, Nyeri County.
“If we get even one vote for Kasongo or his supporters in Kieni, we will follow you and get you out from under your bed because we must keep a record of those supporting that man,” Kaguchia told the crowd.
