The Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) has affirmed that the ongoing modernisation and expansion of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) is a fully Government of Kenya-funded project, dismissing claims of private sector involvement.
In a statement released on March 3, 2026, the Authority clarified that reports linking the Adani Group to the airport’s expansion are inaccurate. KAA stated that a Privately Initiated Proposal associated with the conglomerate had been formally cancelled, and no further engagement is ongoing.
The Authority emphasized that the JKIA upgrade is being executed strictly under established public-sector policies and procedures, underscoring the government’s direct oversight of the strategic infrastructure project.
KAA reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability, assuring stakeholders that any developments regarding the airport will be communicated through official channels.
The statement was signed by Acting Managing Director and CEO Dr. Mohamud Gedi.
