Kenya weather forecast December 16-22,Kenya is set to experience widespread rainfall and notable temperature variations between December 16 and December 22, according to the latest seven-day forecast from the Kenya Meteorological Department (KMD).

The advisory indicates that rainfall is expected across several regions, including the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Coast, North-eastern Kenya, and the South-eastern lowlands. These conditions are likely to impact both major agricultural zones and urban centers during the week.

Daytime temperatures are projected to rise above 30°C in parts of the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya, as well as in sections of the South-eastern lowlands, Rift Valley, and Highlands West of the Rift Valley.

Conversely, cold night-time temperatures are expected in high-altitude areas, with minimums dropping below 10°C in parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, sections of the Rift Valley, and areas near Mt. Kilimanjaro.

A regional breakdown highlights that counties in the Lake Victoria Basin and Highlands West of the Rift Valley, including Kisumu, Kakamega, Kisii, Kericho, and Bungoma, will likely see sunny mornings, followed by afternoon showers and occasional thunderstorms, with some night showers.

In North-western Kenya, covering Turkana and Samburu counties, the forecast predicts sunny intervals during the day, with isolated morning rains and occasional afternoon or night thunderstorms in some areas.

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley, including Nairobi and neighboring counties, are expected to experience cloudy mornings with occasional rainfall, giving way to sunny intervals and scattered afternoon showers.

Coastal counties such as Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, and Lamu will receive showers at various times of the day and night, interspersed with sunny intervals.

The seven-day forecast follows a period of increased rainfall across much of the country. Between December 8 and December 14, the highest weekly rainfall of 160.2 millimeters was recorded at the Winfred Kavengi station in Kitui County, which also logged the highest 24-hour rainfall on December 13.

Temperature records during the same period showed Lodwar registering the highest daily maximum of 37.1°C, while Nyahururu recorded the lowest minimum at 4.7°C.

The Kenya Meteorological Department advises that this weekly outlook should be used alongside daily and five-day forecasts, with county-specific updates available through local meteorological offices.
