KPA Partners With Global Shipping Body to Boost Kenya’s Maritime Sector

The Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) is seeking to strengthen Kenya’s maritime industry through global partnerships, professional training and investment in the Blue Economy as the region’s shipping sector continues to expand.

KPA Chief Executive Officer Capt. William Ruto held talks with Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers (ICS) Global Chairman Krishnan Subramaniam on opportunities to enhance Kenya’s maritime capacity and competitiveness.

The discussions focused on the Blue Economy, professional training, capacity building and upskilling of port workers, as KPA seeks to equip its workforce with skills needed to support the sector’s growth.

Capt. Ruto said the government was laying the foundation for expansion of Kenya’s maritime sector through increased investment in value addition, shipbuilding, ship repair and container construction.

He said the investments would be critical in unlocking the potential of the Blue Economy while positioning Kenya as a stronger player in the regional maritime industry.

The engagement also seeks to deepen cooperation between KPA and the global shipping industry, leveraging the expertise of ICS to strengthen local capacity and improve the competitiveness of Kenya’s ports.
