KRA official dismisses claims targeting Commissioner George Obel

NAIROBI, Kenya, April 30 – A senior official at the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has dismissed allegations circulating online against Commissioner for the Micro and Small Taxpayers Department George Obel as false and malicious.

The claims allege that Obel is under investigation over unexplained wealth and owns assets worth Sh30 billion, including links to various businesses. However, sources familiar with the matter say the allegations are baseless and part of a campaign to discredit the official.

Assertions that Obel is being investigated by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Asset Recovery Agency (ARA) were also dismissed, with insiders saying the narrative does not reflect the actual situation.

Claims linking him to ownership of Ciala Resort were described as misleading, with sources noting the facility has multiple shareholders and is not owned by a single individual.

Additional allegations that he owns a hospital or a steel company, as well as reports about his salary and land holdings, were similarly termed inaccurate, with sources maintaining that such claims can be disproved through official records.
