Nairobi Introduces New Charges for Political Rallies, Concerts and Religious Gatherings

Nairobi City County revised its charges for political rallies, religious crusades, and private events held across municipal sports facilities and open grounds under the Nairobi City County Finance Act 2026.

The updated schedule applies uniform daily rates to all political parties, while introducing new fees for facility use, filming, and stadium amenities.

Political Rally Charges

Organizers planning a political rally at a standard county sports facility face a standardized daily breakdown:

• Daily Venue Fee: Ksh 70,000

• Administrative Charge: Ksh 5,000

• Refundable Property Deposit: Ksh 5,0000

At designated open spaces such as the Joseph Kang’ethe Fenced Ground and open fields, rates drop significantly. Political events pay a daily venue fee of Ksh 30,000, accompanied by a Ksh 5,000 administrative charge and a Ksh 30,000 refundable property deposit.

Non-Political and Community Event Rates

The Finance Act 2026 also establishes fees for non-political gatherings, religious crusades, and private functions:

• Commercial Filming on Grounds: Ksh 70,000 per session.

• Church Services in Stadium Spaces: Ksh 15,000 per session.

• Commercial Canteen Operations: Ksh 10,000 monthly tenancy fee.

• Internal Stadium Parking: Ksh 300 per hour.

• Offloading / Loading Operations: Ksh 6,500 per instance.

The rates in the schedule apply to county-managed open grounds and municipal sports centers across Nairobi, such as Kamukunji Grounds and Uhuru Park.

The finalized figures in the 2026 Act reflect a reduction from earlier proposals floated in the 2025 Finance Bill, which had initially slated daily political rally fees at Ksh 100,000 for high-profile grounds like Kamukunji.
