Media personality Natalie Githinji has appealed to the government to consider easing the financial burden faced by women living with endometriosis to be treated under Social Health Authority (SHA).
Natalie said patients continue to struggle with the costs of consultations, surgery, medication and ongoing treatment despite the serious effects of the disease, as the costs remain too high.
She stated it is her wish women to receive early diagnosis and treatment rather than suffer from mental trauma. She also called for awareness to help people understand the condition.
“It is my wish that women get early diagnosis and treatment rather than spend years suffering from mental trauma before even getting to treat the actual endometriosis,” Natalie wrote on her Instagram page.
She emphasized women have regular checkups, as late treatment is expensive and there is no cure for the disease.
“Today if you pass 10 women, 1 has endometriosis. Now imagine the girls in high school who have no clue about it then get diagnosed and find out that it has no cure and treatment is still expensive,” she added.
She appealed to the President to support Endometriosis Awareness Campaign, which would help educate both women and men, break the stigma and encourage people know the disease is real and deserves urgent attention.
