New CEO Takes Over at Bamburi Cement Amid Expansion Plans
Bamburi Cement Plc has announced a leadership transition appointing Mr. Geoffrey Ndugwa as Chief Executive Officer effective 1st April 2026, in a move that signals a renewed focus on accelerating its sustainability and industrial transformation agenda.
The change in leadership comes as the company deepens its shift toward greener cement production and more efficient manufacturing processes aimed at reducing emissions while scaling output.
Mr. Ndugwa succeeds outgoing CEO Mr. Mohit Kapoor at a critical moment when the company is balancing expansion pressures with environmental compliance and global sustainability expectations in the construction sector.
Board Chairman Dr. John Simba said the incoming CEO’s experience across the Holcim Group in sub-Saharan Africa positions him strongly to drive operational efficiency while advancing the firm’s decarbonization and modernization goals.
The leadership transition aligns with Bamburi Cement’s broader strategy to integrate sustainability into its growth model, including investments in energy-efficient production systems and alternative raw materials.
A key driver of this strategy is the US$250 million clinkerisation plant in Kwale County, designed not only to boost production capacity but also to incorporate cleaner technologies aligned with global green construction standards.
The project is expected to significantly increase clinker output from 1 million to 2.6 million tonnes and cement production from 1.8 million to 4 million tonnes, supporting both growth and environmental efficiency targets.
