Residents of Rachuonyo West are set to benefit from improved access to clean and reliable water as the Government advances the ongoing Rachuonyo West Water Project.
Interior and National Administration Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo said the project demonstrates the Government’s commitment under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) to expanding access to essential services at the grassroots.
Omollo said access to clean water remains a critical driver of public health, economic growth and sustainable community development, noting that improved water infrastructure will have a direct impact on households and businesses across the area.
The project includes expanded and upgraded infrastructure, with works covering modernised pumping systems, increased water storage capacity and an expanded distribution pipeline.
The improvements are expected to extend water services to more households and trading centres, increasing access to safe drinking water and reducing the challenges faced by communities that rely on untreated water sources.
For residents, the project is expected to reduce the long distances and time spent searching for water, particularly by women and children who often bear the greatest burden of household water collection.
The Government says improved access to reliable water will also contribute to better health outcomes by supporting sanitation and reducing communities’ dependence on unsafe water sources.
Beyond household use, the expanded water infrastructure is expected to support local economic activities and improve livelihoods by providing businesses and trading centres with more dependable access to water.
The project is therefore expected to deliver benefits extending beyond water supply, with improved sanitation, health and economic opportunities contributing to better quality of life across Rachuonyo West.
The Government has continued to position investment in basic infrastructure such as water as a key component of its grassroots development agenda, with projects such as Rachuonyo West Water Project expected to play a role in improving living standards and supporting socio-economic transformation.
