Ruto Appoints Charles Mahinda as New CAK Chair, Revokes Shaka Kariuki’s Tenure

President William Ruto has appointed Charles W. Mahinda as the new Non-Executive Chairperson of the Competition Authority of Kenya (CAK), revoking the appointment of Shaka Kariuki.
In a gazette notice dated December 11, 2025, the President named Mahinda to chair the CAK Board for a three-year term, with effect from the same date.
The notice explicitly states that Shaka Kariuki’s appointment has been revoked, bringing his tenure at the competition watchdog to an end.

The appointment was made pursuant to Section 10(1)(a) of the Competition Act and Section 51(1) of the Interpretation and General Provisions Act.
Mahinda now takes over leadership of the Authority’s board at a time when Kenya continues to strengthen enforcement of competition law and market regulation across key sectors of the economy.
