Somalia has demonstrated its commitment to enhancing trade and economic integration within the region after the National Trade Facilitation Committee (NTFC) Strategic Induction and Roadmap Workshop was launched formally in Mogadishu.
Held under the name “Unlocking Somalia’s Economic Potential through the NTFC”, the workshop was officially opened by Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia, His Excellency Salah Ahmed Jama with the support of Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
Among those attending the event is United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar Hassan, who is participating in his capacity as a member of the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) Committee on Communication, Trade and Investment, chaired by Hon. Francine Rutazana.
Deputy Prime Minister Jama stated Somalia’s commitment to the East African Community (EAC) once again promising to transform regional agreements into national action plans.
Jama also noted that, he believes that EAC countries will benefit from cooperation while expanding trade, investment, and development through Somalia’s opportunities.
He expressed confidence that EAC member states would leverage Somalia’s vast economic opportunities to expand trade, investment, and development while benefiting from the bloc’s combined market of more than 300 million.
EALA Committee Chairperson Francine Rutazana described Somalia’s accession to the EAC on November 24, 2023, as a historic milestone that reinforces regional solidarity, economic cooperation, and the shared vision of a prosperous and integrated East Africa.
