Detectives in Mtito Andei have arrested three suspects linked to a failed highway robbery attempt along the Mombasa–Nairobi highway in which one of their alleged accomplices was fatally shot.
The incident occurred on May 6, 2026, near Mutomo, Mtito Andei, when a gang allegedly staged a fake roadside emergency to force a transit driver to stop before attempting to hijack his Subaru Impreza at gunpoint.
During a struggle with the driver, the gang’s firearm reportedly discharged, killing one of the attackers identified as Gift Musau. His accomplices fled the scene on a motorcycle, leaving him behind.
After months of investigations, detectives from Mtito Andei arrested two suspects, Alex Mueti Kasina and Stephen Kalungo Joel, at their hideout in Kinyambu on August 21.
On August 22, detectives arrested a third suspect, Jamlick Muli Muasa, alias Star, at his shop in Kinyambu.
A search of his premises recovered two mobile phones, while several identity cards and driving licences bearing different names were recovered from his residence in Maikuu, Kinyambu.
The three suspects are expected to appear in court on August 24 to face charges including murder, attempted robbery with violence and illegal possession of ammunition as investigations continue.
