Treasury, Health Ministry Advance Universal Health Coverage Reforms

Kenya has reaffirmed its long-standing partnership with the Global Fund, which has supported the country with over 2.1 billion dollars in investments over the past 24 years.

Principal Secretary for the National Treasury, Dr Chris Kiptoo, said the funding has played a critical role in Kenya’s fight against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, and Malaria, safeguarding human capital, reducing public health costs, and supporting economic growth.

Speaking at the National Treasury alongside Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale and Principal Secretary for Public Health Mary Muthoni, Dr. Kiptoo said discussions with Global Fund Executive Director Peter Sands focused on deepening support for Kenya’s Universal Health Coverage reforms.

Key areas of focus include expanding pooled health financing mechanisms, reducing out-of-pocket expenses for citizens, improving budget efficiency, and ensuring timely disbursement of resources to sustain health gains.

The Treasury emphasized that these measures are central to strengthening the health system while safeguarding economic stability and protecting the progress Kenya has made in public health over the last two decades.
