Vatican envoy nominee Mbijiwe declares Sh80mn net worth

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 6 – Kenya’s ambassador nominee to the Vatican, Julius Mbijiwe, has declared a net worth of Sh80 million, according to a parliamentary vetting report.
The National Assembly of Kenya Departmental Committee on Defence, Intelligence and Foreign Relations approved his nomination after he met all legal and integrity requirements.
The committee confirmed that Mbijiwe had secured clearances from key agencies including the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission, Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions, Higher Education Loans Board and the Commission for University Education.
The committee also established that he has not been charged in any court of law.
“Having conducted the approval hearing… the Committee recommends that the House approves the appointment of Dr. Julius Murori Mbijiwe as the Ambassador to the Vatican, the Holy See,” said committee chair Nelson Koech.
Last month, William Ruto nominated Mbijiwe to the diplomatic post.
Mbijiwe currently serves as Chief of Staff in the Meru County Government.
If approved by the House, he will represent Kenya at the Vatican City, strengthening diplomatic ties between Kenya and the Holy See.
