Wavinya Ndeti to Ruto: Ukambani Is Locked as Kalonzo Musyoka Holds Firm Ahead of 2027

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti during a past event:

Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti has cast doubt on President William Ruto’s chances of winning support in the Ukambani region, insisting the bloc remains firmly under Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.
Speaking in Mlolongo on Saturday, December 20, 2025, Ndeti faulted the President’s regional strategy, arguing that the politicians fronted to drum up support lack grassroots influence and are motivated by personal gain.
“I want to tell Ruto that he should not depend on the people he has around him to gain the support of Ukambani. Most of them are only around him to eat. He should stop wasting his money on them,” she said.

Ndeti: Ruto Must Deal With Kalonzo to Access Ukambani

The governor maintained that any serious attempt to penetrate Ukambani must go through Kalonzo Musyoka, whom she described as the region’s undisputed political leader.

Ndeti, however, dismissed the possibility of Kalonzo joining Ruto’s camp, noting that the former vice president remains focused on his own presidential ambition.
“If you want to get into Ukambani, look for our leader Kalonzo Musyoka. Unfortunately, he has decided to be the sixth president of Kenya,” she remarked.
Her comments come amid sustained efforts by Ruto’s allies, including Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, to court Kalonzo ahead of the 2027 General Election—efforts that have so far failed to bear fruit.

Ruto–Kalonzo Rift Deepens as Political Temperature Rises

With overtures rebuffed, President Ruto appears to have shifted tactics, recently launching a scathing attack on Kalonzo over development claims in the region.

On Tuesday, December 16, 2025, Ruto accused the Wiper leader of falsely taking credit for the Kibwezi–Maua road, insisting the project was completed during the Jubilee administration after 2013.
“He is claiming that he launched the road from Kibwezi to Mbondoni.
There are no fools in Kenya anymore,” Ruto said, adding that the road was built under the Uhuru Kenyatta–Ruto government.

The President further questioned Kalonzo’s development record, arguing that the veteran politician had little to show for his decades in leadership—remarks that signal an intensifying political standoff as the 2027 race gathers pace.
