Speaker of the National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula has highlighted the need for unity, responsible politics, and respect for constitutional institutions considering the 2027 General Election.
During the Boda Boda and Women Groups Empowerment Drive at Marenyo Market in Butere Constituency, the Wetang’ula asked political leaders not to entertain hatred, division, and recklessness, explaining that national stability and prosperity can only be achieved through unity.
He asked political leaders to look at the legacy of the late Martin Shikuku, who was respected nationally and showed the way through unity and progress.
The Speaker also explained the independence of the IEBC. He said the commission should be allowed to carry out its mandate without fear or bias.
“I reaffirmed that the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is an independent constitutional body that must be allowed to carry out its mandate freely and fairly because politicians cannot choose the referee, the field or the rules of the game.”
He noted that politicians can’t choose the referee, the field or even rules of the game.
The Speaker further called for stronger cooperation within the broad-based government, urging ODM, UDA, Ford Kenya and other parties to remain committed to the partnership.
Together with Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi and CS Wycliffe Oparanya, Wetang’ula pledged to speak with one voice while prioritising development, industrialisation, railway connectivity, job creation and new economic opportunities in Butere.
Calling a broad-based government for unity and cooperation, he urges leaders in ODM, UDA,Ford Kenya among others to remain loyal to the partnership.
