‘You’re on the Side That Will Lose’: Gachagua Warns Ruto Allies

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua rubbished the political cooperation between the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), claiming President William Ruto has effectively bought the party.

Gachagua nonetheless said the Luo community will remain politically independent and will make its own choice in the next election. He claimed that the Luo community will not support Ruto, pointing to what he described as the government’s handling of the Gen Z protests, education, and other national issues.

There is no way they will vote for someone who killed Gen Z. There is no way they will vote for someone that has destroyed the education system,” he said.

He further targeted ODM figures who have aligned themselves with Ruto, naming Siaya Governor James Orengo, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed, Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, and COTU Secretary-General Francis Atwoli.

You people have never been on any side that has won. Mko kwa Ruto, and we are now sure that you’re on the side that will lose,” he said.

Gachagua at the same time accused Ruto’s administration of using state agencies to intimidate Kenyans and mishandling the Social Health Authority (SHA).

Speaking during a meeting with Laikipia County DCP aspirants, Gachagua said the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has harassed businesses, adding that traders were being targeted through tax demands and notices.

People are crying. Agents and notices. Tunawindwa kama wanyama (We are being hunted like animals),” Gachagua said.

He also assured the aspirants that nominations would be conducted freely and fairly, dismissing worries raised by photographs showing him alongside people involved in political confrontations.

On the Social Health Authority (SHA), Gachagua questioned whether the health insurance system works effectively. He said delegations that visited Kenya over the past two months had complained about its performance.

“Is SHA working? Where does this man live?” he asked, in apparent reference to Ruto.

Gachagua further alleged that billions of shillings had been lost through the health system and claimed that a private company received a two per cent payment. He linked the firm to Ruto and Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen, and he alleged that the company is headquartered in Dubai.

Gachagua accused the Kenya Kwanza administration of undermining the rule of law, and he described Kipchumba Murkomen as the “CS for state terror and coordination of goons.”
